Amir builds a new life in Trampoline House

“I come to Trampoline House to learn Danish and to learn about the Danish society, so I can build my life. If you can learn it, it means you can do it.”

Amir from Afghanistan is 56 years old and is currently in the integration program Next Practice in Trampoline House. Through a partnership between Trampoline House and Roskilde municipality, he is doing an internship where he learns Danish and other skills that he can use to become a part of the Danish society.

One of the advantages of being in Trampoline House is, according to Amir, the possibility to learn about the Danish society: “I am learning about the government and the democracy here. It is important to learn about the country you live in, and to understand its culture.”

Amir also enjoys meeting other people in Trampoline House, because it helps being a part of a community and talking to others about the problems of everyday life: “The people here have the same kind of problems. We have seen war, horrible things and have fled to Denmark. At Trampoline House, we can be together and talk about things.”

Besides his internship, Amir spends time on social media, where he shares information about the things that are happening in Afghanistan. He hopes that with time, he can help engage political activists and the Danish youth in the situation:

“I worry about the future when I think of our children and young people in Afghanistan. It’s a very difficult situation with the war, and there is a lot of suffering in my home country. Young people in Denmark have many opportunities. Girls in Afghanistan, for instance, don’t have the same freedom as Danish girls. I hope that II can contribute to change by telling my story.”
